AirAsia Malaysia passenger numbers almost halve in 2021 second quarter

Figures from the AirAsia Group showed its Malaysian arm flew 279,653 passengers in the three months to June 30, down 43.8% quarter-on-quarter from 497,742 passengers in the three months to March 31. "The ongoing subdued operations are expected to persist until Malaysia reaches herd immunity by the fourth quarter of this year," AirAsia Group said. "The government has recently set a new target of vaccinating all adults by October 2021." The LCC Group said AirAsia Thailand passenger numbers declined 26.2% quarter-on-quarter, to 721,794. At AirAsia Indonesia they fell 1%, to 307,550. On a more positive note, there was quarter-on-quarter growth at AirAsia Philippines, where passengers carried increased by 1.8%, to 171,543.
