Australia's Regional Express stands down 500 staff

Australia's Regional Express (Rex) has stood down 500 pilots, cabin crew, engineers, airport workers, call centre and ground employees and head office operational staff as a result of "the devastating consequences of lock downs and border closures that have ravaged the entire aviation industry", deputy chairman, John Sharp, said. Read More » The decision to furlough hundreds of its staff followed Rex's recent introduction of a reduced flight schedule until September 12. Rex cabin crew had agreed to share remaining available work. "These staffing adjustments will take effect from Monday, 16 August and remain until September 12 in the first instance," Sharp said. "We will monitor the situation closely and react as necessary."
