Virgin Australia adds bag-free economy option in fares overhaul

Virgin Australia (VA) has introduced economy tickets with no check-in baggage allowance after an overhaul of its fare structure. Read More » The privately held airline said its three new economy fares – Lite (no bag), Choice and Flex – were part of an ongoing review of its product and pricing. It found one in three passengers travelled without check-in luggage. The new fare structure would reduce its lead-in fare by 33%, to A$59 (US$42), compared with September 2019 levels, the airline said. Elite members of VA's velocity frequent flyer program will not receive a check-in luggage allowance when travelling on Lite fares. VA, when it was known as Virgin Blue and operated as an LCC, offered an economy product without a check-in luggage allowance.
