India clears 737 MAX to resume operations

India's Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has cleared the 737 MAX to resume operations in the country, two and a half years after it grounded the Boeing aircraft following two fatal crashes. Read More » The order, dated yesterday, said the regulator had been closely monitoring the global trend in un-grounding 737 MAX 8 and 737 MAX 9 aircraft. "Worldwide 17 regulators have permitted operations of Boeing 737 Max airplane," the DGCA order said. It added 345 737 MAXs at 34 airlines were flying and had completed 122,824 departures with 289,537 cumulative hours since December 2020 "with no untoward reporting". In April, the DGCA allowed foreign registered 737 MAXs to overfly India's airspace, subject to permission, and foreign registered 737 MAXs grounded in India were permitted to perform operational readiness flights and ferry flights. The aircraft type was grounded in India in March 2019.
