SpiceJet to re-start 737 MAX operations in September after settlement with lessor Avolon

Read More » The resumption of the LCC's 737 MAX flying is subject to the government's regulatory approval. “I am delighted to share that our 737 MAXs will be back in the air soon," SpiceJet CEO, Ajay Singh, said. "As India emerges from COVID-19 and air traffic picks up, the MAX aircraft will play a major role in our expansion. With a better and a more efficient fleet back in operation we expect a significant reduction in our operating costs [thus] improving our bottom line." SpiceJet was the first airline in India to operate the 737 MAX. It has 13 737 MAX 8s, according to the SpiceJet website. Figures from the Boeing website showed the airline had 129 more of the type on order. Grounded Indian carrier, Jet Airways, which went broke in 2019, also is a 737 MAX customer. It has orders for 125 MAXs, according to Boeing figures.
