Philippine Airlines to operate 70 aircraft post-restructuring

Philippine Airlines (PAL) president, Gilbert Santa Maria, has told reporters 22 aircraft in the flag carrier's fleet of 92 planes will be returned to lessors under the company's restructuring plan. Read More » The fleet reduction will leave PAL with 70 operating aircraft, which Santa Maria said would be more than enough to meet expected demand until the air travel market recovered. PAL also has negotiated with Airbus to push back the delivery of 13 narrow-bodies as well as potentially cancel some orders for aircraft due to arrive at the airline from 2026 to 2030, the airline's chief financial officer, Nilo Thaddeus Rodriguez, said. The airline filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in the Southern District of New York last Friday. PAL will come out of Chapter 11 "in a few months", Rodriguez said.
