Singapore clears 737 MAX to resume flying

The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) has lifted restrictions on 737 MAXs operating into and out of Singapore, two and a half years after the Boeing aircraft was grounded in response to two fatal crashes that killed 346 people. Read More » The decision to clear the 737 MAX to resume operations followed a technical assessment of the design changes to the aircraft made by Boeing and approved by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and other validating authorities, the regulator said. CAAS said its review of the operational data of flights of the aircraft that had resumed service over the past nine months found there had been no notable safety issues. “Aviation safety is paramount. CAAS has taken extra care to assess, monitor and ensure due diligence has been done and that the Boeing 737 MAX aircraft can operate safely, before lifting restrictions on the aircraft's operations into and out of Singapore," CAAS director-general, Han Kok Juan, said. Singapore Airlines has six 737 MAX 8 aircraft in its fleet, with another 31 of the type on order.
