All Nippon Airways (ANA) has cancelled another 6,510 domestic flights from September 16 to October 31, due to reduced air traffic demand. Read More » The carrier cancelled 570 flights in the September 16-September 30 period and 5,940 flights in October. As a consequence, ANA will operate 64% of its normal domestic flying pattern in September, down two percentage points from 66% in its previous update late last month. The Star Alliance member's domestic operation rate for October is 73%. Japan yesterday extended a state of emergency in 19 prefectures across the country, including Osaka and Tokyo, until the end of the month. The country recorded 12,118 new COVID-19 infections yesterday, down from a peak of 26,050 on August 27, according to figures from the World Health Organisation.
