India's Jet Airways to resume flying in first quarter of 2022

India's Jet Airways plans to resume flying in the first quarter of next year, local media has reported, citing comments from the Jalan Kalrock consortium approved to revive the grounded carrier. Read More » The first route will be Delhi-Mumbai, the consortium's Murari Lal Jalan told local media. Short-haul international flights are planned for the second half of the year. Jalan said the venture's business plan projected growing the Jet Airways fleet to 50 aircraft by 2024 and 100 in five years. The aircraft will be sourced via competitive long-term lease agreements, he said. The process to revalidate the carrier's air operator certificate (AOC) is underway. Jet Airways has not flown since April 2019 after it ran out of money. The new owners have hired 150 full-time staff with 1,000 more to join the airline in the next six months. In June, India's National Company Law Tribunal approved a resolution plan for the carrier led by the United Arab Emirates-based entrepreneur, Jalan, and Florian Fritsch, the founder of UK-based investment fund Kalrock Capital.
