Read More » “With the addition of 11 routes to the A380 network by November and extra frequencies on the most popular destinations already being served by the aircraft, Emirates is poised to offer close to 165,000 additional A380 seats to customers,’’ the carrier said overnight. “Fans of the popular double-decker aircraft will soon see more [of them] in the skies as an increasing number of A380s are returned to service, operating routes where it is commercially viable to deploy them.” Emirates plans to open A380 routes to Amsterdam, Barcelona, Dusseldorf, Hamburg, Johannesburg, Madrid, Milan, Riyadh (subject to government approvals), Sao Paulo and Zurich in the next six months. There also will be a new service to Turkey. The A380 is a passenger favourite, but is not so popular with airline executives, several of whom have axed the big plane in favour of smaller twin jets such as the 787 and the A350. Emirates has remained a big supporter of the aircraft. In December 2020, its introduced its first A380 fitted with a four-class configuration featuring premium economy. By November this year, the airline will have six aircraft configured with the seat offering and new look cabin interiors. Other airlines to have stuck by the big jet include the Qantas Group and Singapore Airlines.
