September 30th 2021
Airbus is reportedly in talks with China’s aviation regulator about certifying the A220 for the nation’s lucrative 100-150 seat market. Read More » Airbus China chief executive, George Xu, told Reuters on the sidelines of the China International Aviation and Aerospace Exhibition in Zhuhai that Chinese domestic airlines had shown strong interest in the aircraft. He said the A220, which has not been certified in China, would help airlines fill the gap between small regional aircraft and bigger narrow-bodies such as the A320 or the Comac C919. The A220, acquired by Airbus from Bombardier, has proven popular in other parts of the world with more than 170 delivered to 11 operators by August 31. Air France was the latest airline to induct the type into its fleet when it received the first of 60 A220s this week. The A220 combines efficient aerodynamics with advanced materials and next generation geared turbofan engines to deliver up to 25% lower fuel burn per seat.
