Read More » The airlines have approvals from regulators to operate a joint business until March, 2023, but will seek re-authorisations from the relevant regulators to extend the partnership to 2028. The deal includes an option to renew for another five years beyond that date. In a joint statement, the airlines said they were making millions of reward seats available for frequent flyers to access more than 100 destinations using Qantas Points or Skywards Miles stockpiled during the pandemic. The deal, first struck in 2013, provides Emirates customers with access to more than 55 Australian destinations and Qantas customers can fly on Emirates to Dubai and then access over 50 cities in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa. Emirates president, Sir Tim Clark, said the extension of the alliance, which coincides with the airline’s 25th anniversary in Australia, was testament to its success. “It also reflects our commitment to ensure customers travelling to and from Australia, a market we have served for 25 years, will continue to have the best connections and frequent flyer benefits,’’ he said. Qantas Group CEO, Alan Joyce, said the deal marked the continuation of one of the most significant bilateral partnerships in aviation. Joyce also noted the aviation market will take years to fully recover so close collaboration between airline partners will be more important than ever.
