Greater Bay Airlines receives its air operator’s certificate

Low-cost start-up, Greater Bay Airlines, has received an air operator’s certificate (AOC) from the Hong Kong Civil Aviation Authority in what it characterised as a first essential step toward commercial operations. Read More » The airline said it will work closely with the Air transport Licensing Authority to be awarded its public transport licence. The airline had planned to start operations in the fourth quarter of 2021 with three 737-800s. Its CEO is former Cathay Dragon head, Algernon Yau, who described the AOC as “a positivity that reflects the vision of GBA”. “Although it is very challenging setting up and launching an airline during the pandemic, obtaining an AOC at this time reflects our commitment to the aviation development of Hong Kong, the support of the Chief Executive’s 2021 Policy Address and the readiness to launch operations,” Yau said.
