AirAsia ready for Sarawak after border restrictions eased

AirAsia has welcomed the reopening of travel between the Malaysian peninsula and Sarawak with a 30% discount on flights. Read More » The airline said the easing of restrictions would allow thousands of Sarawakians residing in the peninsula to return to their home state. The discount on flights from Kuala Lumpur to Kuching, Miri. Subu and Bintulu is available until October. “Tourism is one of the key engines for growth, accounting for 15% of the national GDP and almost 8% for Sarawak alone, providing jobs for more than 240,000 people,” said AirAsia Malaysia CEO, Riad Asmat. “That is close to 20% of the state’s employment.

“As the whole country moves to the next stage in the National Recovery Plan, coupled with the high vaccination rate in the state, Sarawak’s decision is very timely. We pledge our full commitment and support towards the full reopening and resumption of travel and tourism activities.” AirAsia’s COVID-19 mitigation plan includes restricting travel to fully vaccinated passengers and check-in via the airasia Super App, which integrates with vaccination records on MySejahtera.
