Airports of Thailand has asked 14 low-cost carriers (LCCs) and Thai domestic carriers to return to Don Muang Airport from October 1, to ease pressure at Bangkok’s main facility, Suvarnabhumi International Airport. Read More »

LCC Thai AirAsia has agreed to the authority’s direction, which is accompanied by a package of incentives for relocation. The incentives include reductions in landing and parking fees, space rental and service charges.

Bangkok’s main airport reached saturation point after only five years of operations. Airlines are arguing for the fast construction of an additional runway as the hub accelerates in growth, but domestic political obstacles to the project has slowed the approval and funding process.
