India pushes back resumption of scheduled commercial international passenger services

India has delayed the resumption of scheduled commercial international passenger flights in response to the emergency created by the new COVID-19 Omicron variant, the country’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said. Read More » "In view of the evolving global scenario with the emergence of new variants of concern, the situation is being watched closely in consultation with all stakeholders," the DGCA circular said. "An appropriate decision indicating the effective date of resumption of scheduled commercial international passenger services shall be notified in due course." India had been on course to reopen commercial international passenger flights on December 15. While scheduled international flights to and from India have been suspended since March 2020, there have been air travel bubble flights under the country's Vande Bharat scheme.
