Read More » The Airport Authority of Hong Kong (AAHK) announced the change last week, describing the runway designation as an important milestone in the airport’s expansion. The third runway is due to come into operation next year and will take on the mantle of North Runway 07L/25R in keeping with International Civil Aviation Organization protocols. A AAHK statement said “the changeover started at 0100 hours on December 2 when all runway designation and mandatory instruction markings were switched over. Movement area guidance signs on the airfield, as well as relevant equipment and procedures for HKIA’s air traffic control and airport operations control systems also were modified. The South Runway remained in operation during the process. Airport authorities reported all air traffic movements operated smoothly before the new centre runway made its debut at 0800 hours”.
