Embraer's Eve Urban Air Mobility Solutions (Eve) has established a significant beachhead in Australia after signing a deal with Sydney Seaplanes for 50 electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft (eVTOL) with progressive deliveries expected from 2026. Read More » It is the urban mobility company's second announcement in Australia in as many days after an order on Monday for 10 eVTOLs from Queensland-based helicopter operator, Nautilus Aviation, was unveiled. Both Australian companies will operate the electric aircraft for tourism-related activities, although Sydney Seaplanes also is looking at providing urban transport services. "Sydney needs a post-COVID lift. What better way to do that than by developing high-tech and zero carbon jobs that support transport, tourism and the vibrancy of this wonderful city. Eve's eVTOL technology will integrate seamlessly with our electric amphibious fleet to deliver a range of tourism and commuter journeys," Sydney Seaplanes CEO, Aaron Shaw, said. "Subject to community consultation, we expect some flights will operate from our iconic Rose Bay aviation terminal on Sydney Harbour. This service will have widespread appeal and will allow us to open routes beyond the Harbour and throughout the greater Sydney region. Nautilus plans to use the aircraft on iconic northern Australian tourism attractions such as the Great Barrier Reef by 2026.

Chris Morris, CEO of Nautilus parent company, Morris Group, said the use of the electric aircraft was in line with the group's commitment to reach net-zero emissions by 2030 across all of its businesses. “We believe economic success and environmental sustainability go hand-in-hand and aim to strengthen and enrich the environments in which we work,’’ he said. “Eve’s eVTOL technology will integrate seamlessly into our operations to deliver a range of exciting zero-emission tourism experiences.”
