Thai Airways International launches Sydney-Phuket nonstop flights

Thai Airways International (THAI) has commenced a second nonstop route from Sydney to Thailand with a three times a week service to Phuket. Read More » The first flight, TG477 operated by 777-300ER HS-TKN, took off from Phuket a little before 1900 local time yesterday and touched down in Sydney at 0730 today. After two hours on the ground, the reciprocal TG478 departed Sydney bound for Phuket. The new Sydney-Phuket flights are scheduled to operate until March 25, 2022. A second carrier was expected to join THAI on the route early next year, with Australian-based LCC, Jetstar Airways, planning to commence a nonstop three a week Sydney-Phuket service from January 12, 2022 with 787-8s. Phuket opened to foreign visitors fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in July under the "Phuket Sandbox" scheme. THAI also has four flights a week between Sydney and Bangkok Suvarnabhumi. Qantas was expected to resume flying between the two cities with five flights a week from January 14 with using A330s.
