Cross-strait routes boost

The hugely popular cross-strait flights between China and Taiwan received a boost last month with the addition of three new routes. China Eastern Airlines launched a weekly service from Wuhan to Kaohsiung, Air China started a thrice-weekly service between Wenzhou and Taipei and Taiwan’s TransAsia Airways launched a twice-weekly service from Taipei Taoyuan to Sanya in Hainan. China also continued to see increased international growth, both outbound and inbound. Sichuan Airlines will make its debut in the North American market this month with a thrice-weekly A330 service to Vancouver from Chengdu via Shenyang.
Air China launched a second daily service to Los Angeles from Beijing on June 1 using B777-300ER aircraft.
A number of services between China and Korea are being added. China Southern Airlines recently commenced a twice-weekly B737-800 service between Zhengzhou and Seoul. Korea’s Asiana Airlines is to launch four new routes during the summer season: Busan-Yanji, Busan-Dayong, Seoul Incheon-Nanchang, and Seoul Incheon-Taiyuan.
Korean low-cost carriers Jeju Air and Jin Air will add to the mix. Jeju will launch services between Seoul Incheon and Qingdao this month and Jin Air will operate between Seoul Incheon and Yantai from next month.
Vietnam Airlines will be launching thrice-weekly flights from Hanoi to Chengdu this month with ATR72 aircraft. AirAsia X will start services between Kuala Lumpur and Beijing this month.
Indonesian’s Batavia Airlines started A321 thrice weekly service from Bali to Hangzhou on June 1.
Also starting new China services were Russian carriers Transaero and S7 Siberia Airlines, Finnair, LOT Polish Airlines, Mega Maldives Airlines and cargo carrier, Cargolux.
