Hong Kong Airport records 28.3% air passenger growth for December

Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) handled 154,000 passengers in December, up 28.3% month-on-month from 120,000 passengers in November. Read More » The December figure also was a 70% improvement from the 91,000 passengers processed through HKIA in the same month in 2020. Passenger numbers for calendar 2021 fell 84.7%, to 1.4 million, from 8.8 million in 2020. "Passenger traffic remained at a significantly low level compared with the pre-pandemic level due to COVID-19 and entry restrictions," Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) said. Total cargo tonnage rose 12.5% for the year, to five million tonnes, from 4.5 million tonnes in 2020. "The strong momentum of peak cargo demand in November carried into December despite flight reductions caused by the emergence of the Omicron variant," AAHK said.
