AirAsia re-introduces fuel surcharge for Malaysian operations
March 7th 2022
For the first time in seven years, AirAsia Malaysia will apply a fuel surcharge to all domestic and international air fares in response to "escalating fuel prices exceeding US$120 per barrel". Read More » The surcharge will be added to tickets from tomorrow (March 8), starting at 10 ringgit (US$2.4) for domestic routes and rising to 60 ringgit for international flights of more than four hours. "We hope this will be a temporary measure," AirAsia Malaysia CEO, Riad Asmat, said. "At AirAsia, we have been absorbing increases in oil prices to provide the best value for our guests. Unfortunately, the current situation, where the oil price has shot up more than 160% compared with 2015, has meant it [the strategy] is no longer sustainable."
