Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) had 980,000 passengers travel through its domestic and international terminals in February, down 5.9% month-on-month from 1.04 million passengers processed in January, figures from Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) show. Read More » The February figure was more than seven times the 131,000 passengers recorded by KLIA in the same month in 2021. MAHB said the reopening of Malaysia's international borders to visitors from April 1 was a positive step, but cautioned the resumption of international air traffic is expected to be gradual in the initial phase. MAHB “foresees passenger traffic to be restored steadily in the next few months as more countries reopen borders and vaccination rates increase in the region, resulting in the recovery gaining further traction from second half of 2022”, MAHB said. By comparison, KLIA handled 4.8 million passengers in pre-COVID February 2019.
