Australia's international air passengers up 10.4% in January

There were 442,608 air travellers who flew into and out of Australia in January, up 10.4% month-on-month from 400,992 passengers in December, figures from the Bureau of Infrastructure and Transport Research Economics (BITRE) report. Capacity was 80.8% lower, at 959 258 seats, from five million seats in January 2019. "International air services this month have been severely impacted by travel restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic," the January 2022 BITRE report said. Singapore Airlines was Australia's largest international carrier by passengers for the month, with a 17.4% market share, followed by Qantas (16.7%) and Emirates (12.5%).
