Korean Air CEO keen to expand the airline’s U.S. network

Korean Air (KAL) CEO, Walter Cho Won-tae, wants the flag carrier to grow its presence in the U.S., local media has reported, citing a speech the KAL boss delivered at an American Chamber of Commerce event. Read More » Cho, Orient Aviation Person of the Year in 2021, said the airline was committed to increasing its activity in the U.S. amid positive operating conditions. KAL's proposed acquisition of local rival, Asiana Airlines, also will support more flying between South Korea and the U.S., KAL forecasts. The airline unveiled its proposal to merge with Asiana in November 2020 with the deal expected to close in 2024. The transaction requires approval from several regulatory agencies in South Korea and abroad.
