Ex-THAI President scores win against THAI
June 10th 2014
Piyasvasti Amranand, 60, a former Energy Minister of Thailand, says he was not surprised when he was dismissed from his post of President at THAI Airways International in 2012. Read More »
Amranand received an award from Asiamoney for “Best Executive 2010 Thailand” for leading a comprehensive restructuring programme that saw THAI return to black ink largely due to rapid improvements in the company’s cost structure and market positioning.
It has long been suspected that Amranand’s dismissal – like many others in Thailand’s current senior management echelons – was politically motivated. THAI, however, cited “communication issues” as the reason for his departure and has since declined to comment further.
Amranand rejected the cited communications issues as ludicrous and has since taken up the position of Chairman of the Energy for Environment Foundation, a non-profit organization undertaking renewable energy and energy efficiency projects.
THAI’s profitable days were over soon after Amranand’s dismissal. The Bangkok-based carrier last week posted its fourth consecutive quarterly loss and cites weakness in tourism due to prolonged political unrest as the main reason.
