Virgin Australia adding 737 MAX 8 to fleet, retiring Fokker 100s

Virgin Australia (VA) will add more Boeing aircraft to its fleet with the introduction of four 737 MAX 8s to its operations from February 2023 and also will deploy an undisclosed number of 737-700s into its fleet to replace its 10 Fokker 100 regional jets. Our resources sector and contract flying in Western Australia is in high demand," VA CEO, Jayne Hrdlicka, said. "This investment in our fleet reflects the increased demand we are experiencing in all parts of Virgin Australia." The withdrawal of the 10 Fokker 100s, which are based in Western Australia and flown by VA's Virgin Australia Regional Airlines (VARA), will commence in the first quarter of 2023. Existing Fokker 100 pilots, cabin crew, engineering and support staff as well as corporate and operations staff functions will be progressively trained to operate and maintain a 737 fleet.
