Virgin Australia (VA) and United Airlines (UA) kicked off their new partnership on trans-Pacific routes ahead of the U.S. carrier's flight from Sydney to San Francisco on May 24. Read More » The alliance includes code-sharing on each other's flights, joint pricing on selected routes and reciprocal frequent flyer benefits. “It is so great to see VA back on the boards flying to the U.S.,” VA CEO, Jayne Hrdlicka, said in a Linkedin post. “United is the very best partner for Virgin Australia to serve the Americas.” Hrdlicka and UA managing director international sales, Marcel Fuchs, were at Sydney airport for the launch event that featured cheerleaders and surfers. On the domestic front, Hrdlicka said the industry had recovered ground lost during the pandemic. “The industry is back and we are going from strength to strength,” she said. “We are exceeding 2019 levels of domestic travel demand, meaning we have exceeded 100% of pre-COVID domestic capacity and have plenty more exciting news to come soon.”
