Cathay Pacific Airways releases 2021 sustainability report

Cathay Pacific Airways has published its 2021 sustainability report, which shows the Hong Kong-based airline group's CO2 emissions fell 20%, to 6.06 million tonnes in 2021, compared with a year earlier. Read More » The decline was impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. For the reported year, the airline removed 43 million items of plastic from its annual usage baseline. Cathay Pacific has set a target of reducing single-use plastic by 50%, from a 2018 baseline, by 2022. On diversity, the report said 28% of senior positions at the airline group were held by women, with the percentage of women on its board at 6%. “I am pleased to share our 2021 sustainable development report. It sets out the specific progress we made last year towards our priority for sustainability issues and also for being a good corporate citizen as the world tackled the COVID-19 pandemic,” Cathay Pacific CEO, Augustus Tang, said. “As our industry makes a gradual recovery from the impact of COVID-19, the transition to low carbon transport and towards sustainable aviation has reached a tipping point.”
