Australia’s international traffic up 59.9% in March

There were 697,969 air travellers who flew into and out of Australia in March, up 59.9%, month-on-month, from 436,432 international passengers in February, the Australian Bureau of Infrastructure and Transport Research Economics (BITRE) reports. Read More » Compared with pre-COVID-19 levels, the March figure was 78.8% below the 3.3 million international passengers into and out of Australia recorded in the same month in 2019. Capacity was 73.4% lower, at 1.2 million seats, from 4.5 million seats in March 2019. “International passenger traffic continues to be severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic,” the BITRE report for March 2022 said. Singapore Airlines (SIA) was Australia's largest international carrier by passengers for the month, with an 18.9% market share, followed by Qantas (14.6%) and Emirates Airline (14%). Qantas group carrier, Jetstar, was the only LCC in the top 10, claiming seventh place with a 3.4% share of the market.
