Qantas Group posts third consecutive annual loss

Qantas Group has announced a narrowed net loss of A$860 million (US$598.5 million) for the 12 months to June 30 compared with a net loss of A$1.7 billion in its previous fiscal year. Read More » Revenue was up 53.5%, to A$9.1 billion, the airline group said in its filing to the Australian Securities Exchange. “The numbers we are reporting reveal the full impact of the Delta and Omicron lockdowns on the group in stark financial terms,” Qantas Group CEO, Alan Joyce, said. “They also show how quickly and strongly the recovery is happening.” The airline group, Qantas Airways and LCC Jetstar, is operating full flights and cannot return stored aircraft to active service fast enough, Joyce said. “Forward bookings are extremely strong across our airlines. Consumer research shows travel is one category people want to keep spending on, even as inflation and interest rates see them pull back elsewhere.”
The oneworld alliance member will launch three times a week 787-9 flights between Sydney and New York JFK via Auckland next June 14, upgrade premium passenger lounges at Adelaide, Auckland, Port Hedland and Rockhampton airports and open a cabin crew training centre in Sydney.
