Air travel demand into Australia hits 90% of pre-COVID-19 levels: IATA report

International bookings for air travel to Australia reached 90% of pre-COVID-19 levels in August, up from 57% at the time the country reopened its border, figures from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) report. Its international air travel bookings had climbed to 84% of pre-pandemic levels from less than 20% in January. “Travel and entry policies in the Asia-Pacific have evolved disparately since the beginning of the year,” IATA said. “At the regional level, international connectivity is recovering at an accelerating pace. However, among countries in the region, there are widely different outcomes as some major markets remain closed. The pace of the air traffic recovery is primarily driven by eased entry conditions. Nations relaxing travel restrictions are benefitting from a steep increase in bookings.”
