August 31st 2022
The U.S. Department of Transportation (DoT) has suspended 26 U.S.-China passenger flights operated by China-headquartered airlines. Read More » It is a response to the Mainland’s “circuit breaker” measures imposed on U.S. airlines transporting a certain number of passengers testing COVID-19 positive after arriving at China destinations, the DoT said. The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) had suspended the scheduled U.S. passenger flights to China between January and August of this year. “We again find the CAAC’s recent actions impairing the operations of U.S. carriers as described above are adverse to the public interest and therefore warrant additional proportionate remedial action by the department,” the DoT said. The CAAC's actions were inconsistent with the U.S.-China Civil Air Transport Agreement and were “premised on circumstances wholly outside of the carriers’ control”, it added. The 26 services are Air China (6), China Eastern Airlines (7), China Southern Airlines (6) and Xiamen Airlines (7).
