IATA records 58.8% jump in July passenger demand

Read More » The airline lobby group's monthly passenger report shows revenue passenger kilometres (RPK) rose 58.8% in July compared with the same month in 2021. Global capacity, or available seat kilometres, was up 37.3% year-on-year. “There is still more ground to recover, but this is an excellent sign as we head into the traditionally slower autumn and winter quarters in the Northern Hemisphere,” Walsh said. Asia-Pacific carriers posted RPK expansion of 47.5% for the month. Capacity increased 28.1% across the region. An exception to the growth story was China, where July domestic RPKs declined 28.7% compared with a year ago and capacity was at 25.2% year-on-year. Mainland airlines have been impacted by travel restrictions imposed by their government following fresh COVID-19 outbreaks in several metropolises across China.
