Finnair rebalancing network as closed Russian airspace erodes profits on Asian routes

Read More » The Helsinki-headquartered airline said its flights to Asia are considerably longer because they cannot operate through Russia’s airspace. The altered routes are weakening profitability, the oneworld alliance member said. Finnair intends to build a “geographically more balanced network connecting Europe to Asia, India, the Middle East and North America” via its Helsinki hub, the airline said. The strategy will reduce the carrier’s fleet, introduce measures to leverage its airline partnerships and cut costs. “The target is to build a leaner Finnair that can return to pre-pandemic levels of profitability,” Finnair CEO, Topi Manner, said. “Reaching this will require profound change throughout the company.”
