Virgin Australia's international codeshares receive regulator’s approval

Australia's competition regulator has granted final approval for Virgin Australia's (VA) codeshare pricing agreements with its airline partners. Read More » Under the arrangements, VA's international airline partners Etihad Airways, Singapore Airlines and United Airlines, among others, will set the fares for long-haul international flights that VA may market and resell to consumers. “There will be no competitive overlap between Virgin Australia and its international partners on any route under these proposed arrangements and other airlines in the market will continue to compete with Virgin Australia and its partners on those particular long-haul international routes,” Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) deputy chair, Mick Keogh, said. “Authorising these arrangements will likely promote competition on long-haul international services, by allowing Virgin Australia to re-establish its international operation in the longer term.” This final determination followed the ACCC’s interim authorisation of the agreement in July.
