Air India launches transformation plan; targets 30% domestic market share

Air India has announced its transformation strategy, Vihaan.AI, which aims to capture 30% of the domestic India market and significantly expand its international network by 2027. “We are laying the foundation for a brave new Air India, with a renewed sense of purpose and incredible momentum,” Air India CEO, Campbell Wilson, said. “Vihaan.AI is our transformation plan to make Air India the world class airline it once was and that it deserves to be again.” Work on the transformation has begun in areas such as cabin refurbishment, proactive maintenance practices and schedule changes to improve punctuality, Wilson said. The Star Alliance member, owned by Tata Sons, recently announced it will lease 30 aircraft. The latest Directorate General of Civil Aviation data shows Air India had an 8.5% share of India's domestic airline passengers in August, behind GoFirst (8.6%), Vistara, part owned by Tata, (9.7%) and IndiGo (57.7%).
