October 14th 2022
Singapore Airlines (SIA) is in confidential talks with India’s Tata Group about a potential Air India and Vistara deal. Read More » “The discussions seek to deepen the existing partnership between SIA and Tata and may include a potential integration of Vistara and Air India,” SIA said in a regulatory filing to Singapore's SGX stock exchange. “The discussions are ongoing with no definitive terms between the parties.” SIA owns 49% of Vistara, a full-service carrier that began flying in 2013. Tata Group holds the remaining 51% of the joint venture airline. Late last year, Tata Group acquired Air India from the Indian government.
In an indication of the importance SIA places on the Indian market, the airline group's statement said Vistara provided the company with a stake in India's fast-growing aviation sector. “India has strong domestic and international traffic flows that are expected to more than double in the next 10 years,” SIA said. “This is an integral part of the SIA Group’s multi-hub strategy, allowing it access to important sources that complement its strong Singapore hub.”
