Australia’s Perth Airport has begun a facial recognition trial for passengers departing on selected Singapore Airlines (SIA) flights in a partnership with Amadeus. Read More » “This process eliminates the need for a physical boarding pass and passport checks at the auto bag drop and boarding gate and will reduce delays sometimes encountered from manual document checks,” Perth Airport CEO, Kevin Brown, said. Passengers must volunteer for the trial. “Being part of the new biometric technology trial at Perth Airport reinforces our commitment to technologies that enhance the experience of our customers on the ground and in the sky,” SIA regional vice president South West Pacific, Louis Arul, said. Amadeus senior vice president for airport and airline operations in the Asia-Pacific, Sarah Samuel, added: “Automating document checks with biometrics is the biggest near-term opportunity for airports and airlines to simplify the progress of passengers through airports.”
