Asiana Airlines and Korean Air apply for flight crew duty hours increase

South Korea's two largest carriers, Asiana Airlines and Korean Air (KAL), have asked local regulators to allow an increase in maximum duty time for air crew, local media reports. Read More » The request is a response to longer flying hours on routes such as Seoul Incheon-New York JFK and on some flights between South Korea and Europe due to the closure of Russian airspace. Under current rules in South Korea, two pilots and two co-pilots are allowed to fly a maximum of 16 hours per journey. The Korea Herald has reported a recent Asiana flight from New York JFK to Seoul Incheon made a technical stop at Tokyo Narita to ensure crew did not exceed their maximum duty time.
