China Eastern Airlines announces US$1.3 billion net loss for September quarter

China Eastern Airlines (CEA) has reported a net loss for the three months to September 30 of 9.4 billion yuan (US$1.3 billion), more than three times the 3 billion yuan net loss it recorded in the same months in 2021. Read More » Revenue was down 7.3%, to 16.5 billion yuan, CEA reported to the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong last week. CEA said the financial result was “mainly attributable” to a decline in passenger demand, a decrease in capacity from the impact of COVID-19, higher fuel costs and currency exchange movements.
