AirAsia X posts US$5.5 million profit for latest quarter

AirAsia X (AAX) has reported a net profit of 25.1 million ringgit (US$5.5 million) for the three months to September 30, back in the black from a net loss of 149.1 million ringgit in the same months in 2021. Read More » Revenue inched 0.8% higher to 100.1 million ringgit, AAX said in a regulatory filing to the Bursa Malaysia stock exchange. AAX, which returned to operations in April this year, after a prolonged hibernation due to COVID-19, said there was an unwavering demand for travel. “AAX is well on track in its recovery path even as the airline is compelled to operate in a challenging operational environment dictated by high fuel prices and a weakened Malaysian ringgit against the US$,” AAX Malaysia CEO, Benyamin Ismail, said. “We are cautious about the strenuous operating conditions, but we remain confident the recovery of the company is on the horizon, if not already within our reach.” AAX said its fleet of six A330-300s is expected to increase to 13 aircraft by interim calendar 2023.
