Cathay Pacific holds first hackathon since 2018

Cathay Pacific said its first “hackathon” since 2018 was held this past weekend, with 80 people gathered at its Cathay City campus to develop solutions to improve the travel experience and promote sustainability. Read More » The 80 university students invited to participate in the 24-hour event were chosen from about 500 applicants. They were supported by 30 coaches. “We are delighted to bring the full Cathay Hackathon event back to Cathay City physically for the first time since 2018, allowing participants to interact more, be inspired more, and to ideate more,” Cathay director for digital and IT, Lawrence Fong, said. The winning team of five students proposed the use of currency systems and AI algorithms to facilitate sustainable practices and carbon-offsetting to enhance customers’ experience by promoting a green lifestyle, Cathay said. They received free business class flights, frequent flyer points and the opportunity to join the airline as interns.
