Air New Zealand anticipates demand to peak at 55,000 passengers on first day of Xmas weekend

Read More » December 23 will be the airline’s busiest day for the month with 55,000 passengers predicted to travel with the carrier, up 77% from the 31,000 passengers Air NZ transported in December last year. Air NZ chief customer and sales officer, Leanne Geraghty, said: “As we prepare for a bumper summer, we are pulling out all stops to remove friction from journeys. We are operating new aircraft, hiring 2,200 additional staff and being supported with 300 airport volunteers. Contingency plans are in place if there are disruptions. We are asking customers to allow additional time to travel to and through airports and be as patient as possible as our staff work to get everyone to their holiday destinations.” Beyond December, the Star Alliance member predicts it will fly 2.8 million passengers on its domestic and international networks in the southern hemisphere summer months.
