China Eastern Airlines posts US$5.4 billion annual loss

China Eastern Airlines (CEA) has reported a net loss of 37.4 billion yuan (US$5.4 billion) for the 12 months to December 31; more than triple the 12.2 billion yuan net loss of the previous year. Read More » Revenue declined 31%, to 46.1 billion yuan, CEA said in a regulatory filing. Operating expenses were 6.2% lower for the 12 months, at 81.4 billion yuan. “Despite the multiple risks of slowing economic growth and geopolitical conflicts, the strong recovery trend of the global aviation industry continues,” CEA said. “It is expected China’s air passenger market will experience a significant recovery.”
