Virgin Australia’s 737 MAX 8 delivery schedule pushed back

Virgin Australia (VA) said the first of the eight 737 MAX 8s it had ordered from Boeing will not arrive at the carrier in time for the June launch of its nonstop Cairns-Tokyo Haneda service. Read More » The delivery delay is attributed to production issues with the type recently identified by the OEM. VA said the new route will be operated by 737-700s for a “short period” until the 737 MAX 8s begin arriving in its fleet. Despite the aircraft change – VA's 737-700s have 123 seats compared with the 176 seats configured on the airline’s 737 MAX 8s – no customers will be impacted by the change, the carrier said, and confirmed the Cairns-Tokyo Haneda route is continuing to launch as planned.
