International air capacity to and from China will reach pre-COVID times in two years despite some near-term uncertainties and geopolitical factors, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) predicts. Read More » “While there was steady growth in international passenger traffic in the first quarter of 2023, the recovery of international travel remains uncertain due to policy-based flight restrictions and capacity shortages affecting airlines,” IATA reports. “China's modest economic outlook in the near term also could hinder international air traffic growth. Considering the latest challenges, our analysis suggests capacity for China’s international markets could fully recover to 2019 annual levels by 2025.” For April, international inbound flights to China were 34% of pre-COVID-19 levels, IATA said.
