AirAsia X reports US$71 million quarterly profit

AirAsia X (AAX) has reported a net profit of 328 million ringgit (US$71 million) for the three months to March 31 compared with a net profit of 33.6 billion ringgit in the same months a year ago. Read More » The 2022 results were impacted by a one-off write back of provisions and forgiveness of liabilities amounting to 33.6 billion ringgit. Revenue jumped 386%, to 548.8 billion ringgit, AAX said in a regulatory filing. AAX CEO, Benyamin Ismail, said the company had 11 aircraft flying out of its Malaysia and Thailand bases at May 2023. AAX's annual accounts stated the LCC planned to have 16 aircraft operational by year-end to support its expansion plans and “maximise the value” of the airline group. “We have been actively engaging with third party aircraft lessors for additional aircraft to join AirAsia X’s growing fleet,” he said.
