Deliveries of 737 MAX impacted by new supplier production issue

Production of the 737 MAX is again being disrupted after Spirit AeroSystems identified a “quality issue” with the elongated fastener holes on the aft pressure bulkhead in some models of type. Read More » “Because Spirit uses multiple suppliers for the aft pressure bulkhead, only some units are affected,” Spirit said. “Spirit will continue to deliver units to Boeing.” The company plans to implement changes to the manufacturing process to address the issue and believes there will “not be a material impact” to its delivery range for the year. “Boeing has determined there is no immediate safety of flight concerns associated with this issue for the 737 fleet and that the in-service fleet may continue to operate,” Spirit said. Boeing confirmed the issue has delayed deliveries of the MAX. Malaysia Airlines was scheduled for acceptance of its first 737 MAX 8 this month.
