Australia's airlines flew 4.9 million passengers on scheduled domestic services in August up from 4.5 million customers in the same month a year ago. Read More » Despite the strong year-on-year growth, domestic passenger traffic dipped below the 5 million mile stone recorded in July. Monthly domestic traffic has been stuck between 4 million and 5 million since April 2022, latest figures from Australia's Bureau of Infrastructure, Transport and Research Economics (BITRE) show. Capacity, or available seat kilometres (ASK), was 10.2% higher year-on-year, BITRE said. Compared with pre-COVID-19 activity, the August result was 94.2% of the 5.2 million domestic air travellers flown in August 2019 and ASKs were 99.3% of four years ago.
